Area of intervention: environmental protection

In 2024, Alperia launched a pilot reforestation project in the municipality of Luson, in collaboration with Rete Clima and with the support of the Bolzano Provincial Forestry Inspectorate.

The initiative aims to restore the wooded areas affected by Storm Vaia, strengthening the resilience of local forests to climate change and ensuring the protection of infrastructure located in the areas below.

As part of the project, 20 Alperia employees volunteered, actively contributing to the planting of trees. The direct involvement of staff was an important awareness-raising moment for the entire Group team. This first initiative, supported by the presence of the General Manager, was met with great success, consolidating the desire to collaborate with the Province for the next three years with an ambitious goal: to plant 3,000 trees per year.

The project will be monitored for at least three years starting from the planting date. The number of trees planted, the species involved, the percentage of healthy trees after three years, the reforested area, and the theoretical tons of CO₂ that the trees will absorb in thirty years will be measured. The goal is to have as many healthy trees as possible by the third year, as by then the trees should be sufficiently grown to survive on their own.

The plants were selected carefully and responsibly, with preference given to native species that are resistant to the effects of climate change to ensure healthy and long-lasting growth.

Objectives

  • Restore severely damaged forests, maintaining their protective function and preserving the landscape
  • Increase CO₂ absorption capacity and strengthen natural protection against extreme weather events.
  • Actively involve Alperia employees, promoting a corporate culture that is attentive and responsible towards the environment.
