The transition to a more sustainable energy system is one of the greatest challenges of our time. For Alperia, this means first and foremost reducing emissions and continuing on its decarbonisation pathway through the targets set out in the Net Zero Plan

Net Zero Target

We have set ourselves a clear target: to achieve Net Zero by 2040.

This pathway is built around interim targets, concrete actions and the measurement of results. Compared with the 2022 base year, we aim to reduce Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 60% by 2032 and by 90% by 2040.

These targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and represent milestones on our pathway to Net Zero.

However, for a target to be credible, it must be measurable. This is why every year we report on our results and progress towards our decarbonisation targets in the Alperia Group Consolidated Report, which also presents the findings of the independent assurance performed by the auditing firm EY.

People, the Environment and Resources

Reducing emissions is a central part of our pathway, but for Alperia sustainability also encompasses people, safety, the environment and natural resources, customers, governance and the value we create in the regions where we operate.

To address these dimensions systematically, we have adopted an ESG approach: Environmental, Social and Governance.

Our pathway begins with an analysis of the impacts, risks and opportunities associated with our activities, together with engagement with our stakeholders.

This process identified 16 material topics that define our priorities. These topics are organized into five areas of action that form the foundation of our sustainability policy.

We operate daily to ensure the reliability of our plants and the continuity of service through constant maintenance and monitoring activities.

Digital challenges

The Group’s digitalisation journey continues in a structured and ongoing manner. Alperia has strengthened its governance in the areas of Cyber Security and Data Protection by adopting risk management and monitoring systems, assessing ISO 27001 certification on an annual basis and promoting a culture of security through training and awareness initiatives for employees.

Focus on our team

People are our strength. We invest in the development of the people who work with us, fostering an inclusive and fair environment. Alperia’s commitment is reflected, among other things, in the adoption of a dedicated Diversity Policy, the introduction of a Diversity Manager role, and the establishment of a Steering Committee for Gender Equality, which supports the implementation of Diversity and Inclusion measures.

To support these commitments, the Group has obtained the UNI/PdR 125:2022 Gender Equality certification and, for Alperia Greenpower, the PAS 24000 social certification, while also promoting work-life balance policies and training initiatives on inclusive communication.

The Plan to reduce emissions

In order to achieve the Net Zero target by 2040, a set of actions has been defined across all major emission categories: reduction of Scope 1 emissions through increased energy production from renewable sources, the gradual transition to district heating plants powered by biomass or other low-carbon sources, the electrification of the corporate fleet, and energy efficiency measures within operations; for Scope 2 emissions, the decarbonisation pathway is based on the full transition to renewable electricity, combined with the reduction of network losses; finally, with regard to Scope 3 emissions, the strategy includes increasing the sale of renewable electricity, alongside the development of biomethane sales and district heating.

Commitment to customers

We provide electricity, natural gas and district heating to more than 520,000 customers: households and businesses with whom we are building a transparent relationship, supported by a strong local presence. Alongside energy supply, we also support our customers in the transition towards more sustainable mobility, offering e-mobility solutions such as electric vehicle charging services and dedicated offers, thus contributing to more efficient, low-emission mobility.

Our sustainable products and services

Our sustainable products and services - 100% of the energy sold to residential customers comes from renewable sources certified through Guarantees of Origin (GOs). We have also strengthened our presence among SMEs based outside South Tyrol, encouraging them to adopt renewable energy and gas, whose emissions are offset through specific CO₂ offsetting projects. We also support companies in their decarbonisation process by helping them adopt renewable energy and CO₂-offset gas, offering decarbonisation consulting services designed to support them on their path towards reducing emissions and transitioning to more sustainable energy models.
